1000 Books For Africa
- Srinidhi Nagarajan's African Library Project

9/9/18 to 1/31/19
Cupertino CA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

I am Srinidhi Nagarajan, an 8th grader from Cupertino, California, who is immensely passionate about making the world a better place. I really want everyone in this world to have access to books, which I treasure very much. When I got to know about the African Library Project, I realized this was a wonderful opportunity to make that happen. Let's work together to help children in Ghana experience the joy of reading!

We want to start a library in Africa because...

Everyone in the world deserves the right to books and a good quality education. If kids in Africa are deprived of books, something that we possess in such great quantity, it is our duty to share our resources with them. Making a difference in the world is so important to me, and this is a wonderful way to do so. With your help, we can put smiles on kids' faces as they get the opportunity to experience the magical journey of reading a story. Let's make it happen!

About our African Partners...

Here are some ways that you can help...

A book drive is a team effort, so any sort of help or support is greatly appreciated. Please donate books! Any new or gently used books for kids of the ages preschool to 8th grade in the English language will be accepted. Please let others know about the event as well, so we can get as many books as possible to provide to the African children.

Results so far
(updated: 10/4/18)
112 books $0.00 fundraising

I had placed one box at Collins Elementary School to accept book donations, and the principal emailed me that that box was full and he had to place another box there! That second box became filled too! The amount of donations we are getting is amazing, so let's keep it up!

Acknowledgements

I want to truly express how thankful I am to the people who have donated to my book drive. First of all, thank you to my friends from music class who are supporting me with their books! Also, thank you to Collins Elementary for donating your books!

Tips for Other Book Drive Organizers

Starting a book drive is a wonderful thing to do. Make sure you have an action plan before you begin, as that will give you an idea of what you want to accomplish in a certain amount of time. Also, make sure that you are very specific as to what kinds of books you would like, so you don't get books that your African partner cannot accept. Last but not least, be proud of yourself and have fun! You are doing something amazing for the world that many, many people will truly appreciate :).
