Troop 254 World of Girls Brownie Book Drive

10/16/2018 to 01/29/2019
Stafford VA

We are working with the African Library Project to provide books to eager readers in Africa who have very few books. Please help us by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It takes only 1000 books and $500 (plus a little elbow grease!) to start a single library and make a huge difference in children’s lives.

This book drive is organized by ...

This year, Troop 254's Brownie Girl Scouts completed their World of Girls journey. As part of this journey, the girls took a small reading tour of different countries around the world and learned about the girls there. As a wrap-up to this journey, the girls had to organize an idea for a service project (a "Take-Action" project) to finish the badges. We have decided, since books were part of the theme of the journey, to do our part for the African Library Project and hold a book drive for Ghana.

We want to start a library in Africa because...

We believe in the power of girls and the changes they can make. Girl Scouts is about community, sharing, caring, and most importantly, being a sister to everyone. We are running this book drive in hopes that we may encourage girls to do their part AND that we may be the sister that a few little girls need in their lives.

About our African Partners...

Our books will be benefiting Ghana! We are hoping to supply a community library from the preschool to 8th grade levels.

Please contribute these kinds of books...

We are in need of books from the United States pre-school level to the United States 8th grade level.

Here's how you can contribute your books...

We will collect books every Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Park Ridge Elementary School at 2000 Parkway Boulevard in Stafford. More donation locations TBD.

We need to raise funds for shipping the books...

For fundraising, we are relying solely on donations for now. We need a total of $500 dollars for shipping costs - this ends up to be roughly $.50 per book to ship. Any contribution you can make would help our cause tremendously. More fundraising details TBD.

Here are some ways that you can help...

Any lightly-used books that you may have that fit our donation category would be greatly appreciated! Round up all of those children's books that aren't being read anymore and donate them for a good cause! If you would like to help monetarily, please contact us through our website at
